Cervecería de Colima

Cervecería de Colima

“La Cervecería de Colima” is a new Mexican brewery located in the town of El Trapiche, Cuauhtemoc in the state of Colima in Mexico. The brewery dedicates all its hard work into perfecting its three unique handcrafted beers for international sale and distribution.

Our branding proposal is a modern visual translation of every distinguished traditional element from Colima and its surroundings, such as its magnificent local Colima volcano. We developed a friendly, simple-looking brand that honours the human touch and workmanship behind every product.

Three craft beers were brewed to mark the beginning of the brand’s legacy. First, the main one: Colimita, the beer from the earth and favorite of the sun. Second, Páramo, a Pale Ale inspired by the whisperings in the streets of Comala. And finally, Ticús, relative of the crow, Cervecería de Colima’s dark beer. From light to dark labels and bright colored caps, the bottles' design resemble the uniqueness and the hard work behind each individual brew.

Guillermo Ríos and dancing dogs of Colima

Dancing Dogs are one of the best known symbols of Colima . Contrary to what you think they are not dancing or fighting. These dogs represent the transfer of power from generation to generation. The old dog transmitting their knowledge, wisdom and experience that prepares the young to the succession.

The dogs are Xoloitzcuintles, also called Mexican hairless dog, an ancient pre-Hispanic race. These dogs, according to Aztec mythology, accompanied the deceased and guided his soul to the underworld so sacrificed and buried with him. In the state of Colima found a large number of graves containing clay figures with the representation of these dogs.

The photo is the work of Guillermo Ríos and his prehispanic figures Alcalá, master of Mexican folk art.

Volcán de Fuego Erupts

Mexican Volcano of Fire has erupted shooting an ash column 5 kilometers into the air and covering towns as far as 25 kilometers from the peak.

Mexico's federal civil defense office said that no injuries or evacuations have been reported as Colima volcano spewed hot, dry rock and gases two kilometers from the crater at about 12:24 local time.

"We recommend that people cover their nose and mouth, protect sources of potable water, and avoid dumping ash in drainage systems because it hardens with moisture," national civil protection coordinator Luis Felipe Puente told Foro television.

For now, the situation does not present a risk to the population, however, the Interior Ministry will send a team to conduct an evaluation of the activity at the crater. The team will be headed by the Director General of Civil Protection, Ricardo de la Cruz Musalem, and staff from the National Center for Disaster Prevention.

Ash fall is reported in the municipalities of Tonila, Zapotiltic, Jalisco, Quesería, and Colima, at distances of up to 25 kilometers from the volcano.

The 3,820-meter volcano lies 690 kilometers northwest of Mexico City, on the border of Colima and Jalisco states and is considered to be one of the most dangerous in North America.

Pajaro Bandera

PÁJARO BANDERA.
"tzinitzcan" (nahuatl)
Trogon mexicanus Swainson 1827 (TROGONIDAE)

The forests surrounding the Laguna La Maria; the volcano of Colima and Sierra Manantlán -Municipios Comala and Minatitlan (Biosphere Reserve) are inhabited by one of the rarest bird species in Mexico: the bandera bird, a close relative of the quetzal, distinguished for having the green, white and red feathers.

In 2000, in the Biosphere Reserve of Manantlán, Jalisco, this species was used as a symbol of environmental pride, and as charismatic species to encourage support for the Reserve, in order to induce the reduction of forest fires caused by agricultural activities. This campaign lasted three years, generating positive results for species conservation and the environment.

    The Shaman

He has been guarding a tomb for over 1,500 years.

And only now have a team of archaeologists come across a shaman sculpture in an underground burial chamber in the state of Colima, Mexico.

It is unusual to find one of the statues intact as many have fallen victim to tomb raiders over the centuries.
The sculpture has a long face and holds a weapon - probably an axe - to guard the shaft tomb which was covered over by slabs of volcanic rock.

It was uncovered by archaeologists at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) who have become the first people to see the sculpture in hundreds of years.

Archaeologist Marco Zavaleta explained that the model was found in the entrance of an underground funerary space in Villa de Alvarez.

    Laguna El Naranjal

Laguna El Naranjal is located just outside the small community of El Naranjal. It's an artificial lake created for recreation and has recently received improvement monies from the Federal Government. Camp sites have a grill, there are public bathrooms every day. On weekends and holidays there will be restaurants, a store, rentals and a Zip Line.

Easiest way to get there is pass through Comala and continue up the hill until you reach the Laguna de Carrizalillo turnoff to the right. El Naranjal is 3-4 kilometers past Carrizalillo which is basically the end of the road. Some of the best Volcano views around.
