Zona Magica Colima
An interesting stop for a few minutes is the Zona Magica on the road from Comala to Suchitlan, various lakes in the area and good volcano views. I've stopped numerous times, usually with a friend that has not been to the area or tested the phenomenon.
There are laterals (side roads) in this section so you don't get a lot of cars stopping in the middle of the highway. You can either pull off to the side or if you're sure there is no traffic stop on the highway. In the right location, your car will roll uphill, water will run uphill ... and my favorite, a beer can will roll uphill ... while you swear they should go the other way
Even though there are stories of magnetic forces in the area ... I'm convinced it's simply an optical illusion. A combination of the landscape and the road construction ... but that spoils all the fun.

Comala Suchitlan Coffee
It's CAFE in the mountains behind Colima
Cofradia de Suchitlan, Colima - Mexico
The area above Comala is not only a beautifully scenic area with views of the Colima Volcano but it's also coffee country. Suchitlan is the town with the coffee processing plant (Colimotl Cafe) but the coffee grows from there up to Lago Maria and on to La Yerba Buena. Because Yerba Buena is so close to the volcano the government ordered relocation of the town 3-4 years ago but many have resisted and still maintain their residences and farming. Yerba Buena used to process it's own coffee but now only sells to the larger processors like Colimotl and Comalteco.
We stopped at the Colimotl processing plant in Cofradia de Suchitlan (across from the bull ring) to see what's up - and got a nice tour. Sadly they only roast for cafe Americana which is medium and you can't request a dark roast

Project Amigo dental clinic in Suchitlán Colima
We drove 5 kids from Melaque up to The little village of Cofradía de Suchitlán outside Comala Colima for a special dental clinic they put on for us. Most of our kids had not been to Colima let alone in the mountains at the base of Colima volcano. They had teeth fixed and an adventure at the same time.
Project Amigo is run by a great bunch of people and has been working in Colima for 25 years. Their offices are in a beautiful old home in Suchitlán. I'll let you read more about it on their web page. Ted has given up part of his home, a block away, for the dental office.
